In For a Disappointing Surprise…
Color Reveal Chelsea looks like a fun experience, but the surprises aren’t all they are cracked up to be.
Each doll comes coated in a purple substance and has 4 blind bags to open. Due to the clean-up needed, parental supervision is advised. For this line, the ponytails change color with ice.
Sadly, there wasn’t much of a “surprise” with this doll. Straight out of the container, the Chelsea doll’s plastic blond hair was exposed and not fully coated by the purple dye. So within seconds it was apparent that this was the blond version.
The blind bags are thin, so if you have a bright light, like a ring light, you will be able to see right through the bags and know exactly what is in each one.
It is important to note that the water you dip the doll in must be hot. but not boiling. It takes 30 seconds for the doll to be completely revealed. For this doll, the dye would not go away; and that’s even after scrubbing it profusely. It’s also best to have a towel nearby because the doll leaks water for a while after you’ve taken it out of the water.
Now onto the accessories. The Barbie version of the color reveal line comes with a full wig, but Chelsea does not. Instead she comes with a ponytail attachment that goes into the doll’s head. Just seconds after inserting the ponytail attachment, the rubber band keeping the hair together broke; leaving hair everywhere.
The doll’s outfit was cute, but the material for the shoes and skirt were very thin. She also came with a pineapple-shaped drinking bottle. One cute perk for this Chelsea line is that you can use ice to reveal streaks in her hair. So even after you’ve opened all the blind bags, that surprise was also waiting for you.
The doll itself is cute and you typically don’t get to have this much fun with a Chelsea (Barbie) doll all at once. The concept of Color Reveal dolls is unique and fun, but this particular doll was flawed.
