MATTEL 2018 Holiday Barbie Doll | Review

Barbie in RED!

In 2018, Mattel celebrated 30 years of Holiday Barbies.

To commemorate the occasion, the brand decided to reinvent the 1988 version of the line with an updated edition of that particular doll. Even though this meant they’d release back-to-back dolls wearing red dresses, it was well worth it.

The 2018 line of Holiday Barbies proved to be the most diverse yet. Though the Caucasian, Hispanic and African American versions all adorned the same dress, they each had different poses. This was the first time we had an African American Holiday Barbie sport a natural hairstyle – an afro! Given that this was the 30th anniversary, it would have be nice if the box was acrylic or even if a ornament was included as a keepsake. The display boxes aren’t deal breakers, but they add a nice touch.

Mattel outdid itself with this line and left no stone unturned. From the bold silver and pearl accessories from head-to-toe, to the larger than life red dress. Although you can’t see them through the mounds of dress fabric and tulle, Barbie is sporting super chic red heels to finish off the look.
